Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Two Foreign Macaw Species

July 6, 2012 - 77 FR 40171 - RIN: 1018-AY33 - Download Full Notice: Text | PDF

We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), propose to list as endangered the military macaw (Ara militaris) and the great green macaw (Ara ambiguus) under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (ESA). We are taking this action in response to a petition to list these parrot species as endangered or threatened under the ESA. This document also serves as the completion of the status review and as the 12-month finding. We seek information from the public on the proposed listing for these species.

Agency Contact: Janine Van Norman, Chief, Branch of Foreign Species, Endangered Species Program, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 4401 North Fairfax Drive, Room 420, Arlington, VA 22203; telephone 703-358-2171. This is a proposed regulation. Comments were due on September 4, 2012.
